Duration: 90 min., no intermission
Following their highly successful interpretation of King Lear, in which they engaged their fathers, the members of the She She Pop collective have turned to their mothers. Appearing in a brilliant, visually stunning video work spread on four large screens, the mothers (on video) and their children (live on stage) interact with impeccable timing. The poignant, honest, humorous and moving encounter tackles profound personal and universal issues of self-identity, cross-generational relationships and parental sacrifice, while superbly integrating the sacrificial theme of “The Rite of Spring.” Stravinsky’s groundbreaking masterpiece is deconstructed and rediscovered in this original, highly entertaining theater and dance performance. The show was performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Théâtre Vidy, Switzerland; Kyoto Experiment, Japan; and Théâtre de la Ville, France.
From the Reviews: “She She Pop has found a fantastic form of artistic expression: they infuse small, human, individual stories with personal content, creating a narrative that will resonate with many viewers” [TazBerlin, 2011]
