Job
An original modern theatrical-operatic treatment of Job’s tragic journey, starring Sasson Gabay in the role of Job, Keren Hadar as Job’s wife and the actors of The Incubator Theatre.
Veteran director Yossi Yzraely, gives voice to Job’s wife, seen by some commentators as Satan’s emissary, for she doubted Job’s devotion to God after being struck down by catastrophe time and time again despite his innocence. Placing the lamenting wife and mother in opposition to the tormented Job, Yzraely reflects on Job’s struggle and devotion to his faith.
Joseph Bardanashvili, one of the most esteemed Israeli composers, elevates the text by presenting an oratorio that not only endows the biblical story with new vitality, but arouses questions regarding perceived morality and belief, reward and punishment. After breaking onto the world stage with The City, the Incubator theatre continues to create original productions in its own unique, innovative and humorous theatrical language.
This is an exceptional theatrical stage adaptation that challenges us to consider this biblical text anew in all its rich complexity.
