Choir Routine

Raya Bruckenthal > Retirement Home

Raya Bruckenthal is an interdisciplinary artist working with various mediums, including video, drawing and sculpture. Her works are characterized by collaborations with communities, and by the observation of communities and their beliefs.

In the artist residency, Raya Bruckenthal accompanied the rehearsals of the residents of Neveh Horim – Retirement Home in Katamon, Jerusalem, and listened to the voices. The rehearsals routine led to a collaborative sound work.

During the festival, Choir Routine will be played on the PA system at Neveh Horim, in the outer courtyard and at the entrance to the complex. Listening to the voices in both spaces – external and internal – establishes the power of the voice and the desire to express it in the outside world, and in times of lockdown and quarantine, becomes a mediating metaphorical act.
