IN CELEBRATION OF COMPOSER HELMUT LACHENMANN’S 80TH ANNIVERSARY – A SPOTLIGHT ON CONTEMPORARY ISRAELI AND GERMAN MUSIC IN A JOINT CONCERT FEATURING ENSEMBLE MODERN AND ISRAELI MUSICIANS, CONDUCTED BY ILAN VOLKOV (GERMANY-ISRAEL)

This unique concert of contemporary music takes place as part of the 50th-anniversary of Israeli-German diplomatic relations. The fruit of a collaboration between Ensemble Modern and outstanding up-and-coming Israeli musicians, the concert is conducted by Ilan Volkov. It features “…zwei Gefühle – Musik Mit Leonardo” (two feelings – Music with Leonardo) by Helmut Lachenmann – one of the world’s most important and influential contemporary composers. Lachenmann, who will celebrating his 80th birthday later this year, will honor concert goers with his presence,taking on the role of the narratorin the performance. Another piece is The Chamber Concert for 13 instruments, composed in 1970 by Hungarian composer GYÖRGY LIGETI, and is one of his most well-known orchestral work. The concert will also feature the world premiere of two pieces by Israeli composers – Dan Yuhas’ “Repercussions for Horn and Ensemble,” written for the Ensemble Modern’s Frensh horn player Saar Berger, and Yuval Shaked’s “Zeitgesonnene Musik (temp.)”
* A pre-performance discussion with composer Helmut Lachenmann will take place at 19:00 in the Henry Crown Hall, with the participation of moderator Emmanuel Witzthum and conductor Ilan Volkov, and will include the performance of two solo compositions by Lachenmann. Open to the public.
